Early Childhood Music Development
Ages 2 ½ to 4 Monday 9:00 – 9:30am (start 10/13/14)
KiddyMusik is a music program specifically designed to bring out the music in a young child through singing, listening, structured and expressive movement, and rhythm activities, playing classroom instruments, and learning to read music.
Ages 4 ½ to 6 Tuesday 11:30am – Noon
Ages 4 ½ to 6 Wednesday 5:30 – 6:00pm
Ages 4 ½
to 6 Saturday 9 – 9:30am
Children will experience the joy of music. Each week's class emphasizes character development by way of rhythm and movement exercises, recognition of notes and note values, memory skill building, counting exercises, music and introduction to music staff and piano keyboard; development of listening skills - high and low, loud and soft; and hand-eye coordination through experience with rhythm instruments and keyboard. Musical story time focuses on composers, music terminology.
Piano/ Keyboard Level 1B-3B
Ages 6 and older Tuesday 1 0–11:00am (start 9/2/14)
This class is for those who have completed one full year of piano lessons and ready to begin the next level of instruction. Class will continue to work with note reading, rhythm patterns and music theory and music history.
Early Winds Class
Ages 6 to 10 Monday 1:00 – 2:00 pm (start 9/8/14)
Our unique Early Winds program for kids 6 -10 years old permits meaningful instruction to take place in a way that retains the child's fascination with music. Utilizing flutes and saxophones designed specifically for young musicians, students will learn real playing skills that will last a lifetime.
Beginning Band: Percussion
Ages 10 and older Tuesday 2-2:45pm (start 9/2/14)
This class is the first level of percussion instruction. Students will learn basics of snare drumming and orchestral bells. Students will need to have their own instrument to play and will need to purchase a book at the first class.
Beginning Band: Woodwinds
Ages 10 and older Tuesday 3-3:35 pm (start 9/2/14)
This class is the first level of woodwind instruction for those interested flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe or bassoon. Students will need to have their own instrument to play and will need to purchase a book at the first class.
Beginning Band: Brass
Ages 10 and older Tuesday 4-4:45 pm (start 9/2/14)
This class is the first level of brass instruction for those interested trumpet, trombone or French horn. Students will need to have their own instrument to play and will need to purchase a book at the first class.
Ages 11 and older Tuesday 1-2:00pm (start 9/2/14)
For those that have played a wind or percussion instrument for at least 1 year, Intermediate Band focuses on continuing performance techniques, ensemble playing and basic music theory.
Ages 5 to 8 Monday 4:00 -4:30 pm
5 to 8 Saturday 9:00 -9:30 am
Each week's class will introduce new notes or
chords. Rhythm and recognition of notes and note
values. Memory skill building, counting exercises,
music and introduction to music staff and guitar
finger board and chords. Development of listening
skills - high and low, loud and soft. Hand-eye
coordination through experience with guitar and rhythm
instruments. Musical theory time focusing on
composers, music terminology. You will need an
acoustic guitar of the right size for your child for
this class. We have them available for
purchase at $60 additional cost.
Orchestral Strings Classes
KiddyStrings: beginning level
3 to 6 Wednesday 3:30 – 4:00pm (start 10/15/14)
Ages 2 ½ to 5 Saturday 11:00 – 11:30am (started 9/6/14 - enrollment closing soon)
Children will experience the joy of learning to play the violin through the use of musical adventures and song. Each weekly class will introduce new technics through the use of violins and rhythm instruments. Memory skills, counting exercises, note reading skills and introduction to the musical staff will all be taught, helping to develop listening skills, hand-eye coordination.
Young Strings Class
Ages 5 to 10 Thursday 1 – 1:30pm (start 9/4/14)
Learn to play the violin!
Each weekly class will introduce new techniques through the use of violins and rhythm instruments. Memory skills, counting exercises, note reading skills and introduction to the musical staff will all be taught, helping to develop listening skills, hand-eye coordination.
Ages 12 and older Thursday 1:30 – 3:00pm (start 9/4/14)
This class is for students who are interested in performing more challenging pieces of music in a group setting and who have played their instrument for two or more years, strings, woodwinds & brass. Opportunity for performances three times during the school year and once as a side by side with the Niles Area Community Orchestra. Music provided.
Ages 6 and older Friday 10:30-11:15 am (start 9/5/14)
Children will experience the fun and joy of singing. Our musical adventure will begin with fun vocal warm-ups, beginning music theory and history of the pieces we will be working on. Performance at the end of the semester.
